Time for a sad slumber party by Dazai's cell. Assume someone brought snacks and whatever to make this 20% less miserable than it has to be, but otherwise? It's still pretty bad. And awful. And miserable. Veronica's not in a mood to talk much after that mess of a trial, but she does have enough eloquence to mumble:]

This isn't fucking fair.

[And, you know, glare at the floor as one does.]

[Dazai's sitting on his cell floor, and I'm assuming the bars are wide enough that you can pass snacks through, or otherwise this is going to be even more depressing.]

[WHY...... DID THIS SQUAD HAVE TO GO FULL YEET..... Souji was definitely the one who brought food and tea anyway since he's still managing to hold himself together through Sheer Iron Will Alone, but this really does suck! Not only did they not find any of the killers, but he likes Dazai?? He's tired of innocent people he likes dying??

[Evan, meanwhile, is sitting with his back against the bars, knees drawn up to his chest and arms resting on his legs, staring at the floor. He doesn't say anything to either Veronica's incredibly true statement or Dazai's thanks, but he does add on to Souji's offer.]

...Yeah. Anything, anything I can get for you.

[Man, this sure is a nice pity party. Small addendum that Veronica brought enough wine for everyone, and is already in the process of spiking her tea. Hi. We're sure this tastes fine.]

... Echoing that. [This is fine.] Any final requests, Dazai?

[Dazai's just drinking his wine straight.]

I'm guessing 'don't be upset' isn't an option.

[Honestly fair. If anyone deserves a drink tonight, it's Dazai.

In any case, that actually gets a short laugh, even though it's dry and somewhat humorless and Very Tired.]

[He takes a deep breath, nodding along again to what Souji says.]

Of course we're going to be upset.

Hard not to be upset when one of your friends is dying over something he didn't do, just saying. Try again?

[That came out 100% bitter, but it's the truth. This is horrible.]

I'd say that's Evan's decision, too.

[DAZAI IS DYING AND YET NO ONE IS SIDING WITH HIM. But really, he doesn't think extended company would be bad for either of them.]

[He glances behind him, through the bars, speaking to Dazai for a moment.]

[But, once that's done, Souji gets a nod of appreciation.]

If Evan's not leaving, neither am I. We might as well make this a real pity party slumber party.

[Dazai sighs, but he recognizes a hopeless argument when he sees it for the second time.]

...You're all better friends than I deserve.

[He doesn't say it aloud but yeah his ass is also going to stick around out here for the night. GOOD WORK TEAM... RIDE AND DIE. He also shakes his head almost reflexively at Dazai's self-deprecative words.]

[Evan, too, shakes his head as he rubs at his face.]

That isn't true. You would have done the same for any of us.

... Says the guy who's winning the martyr olympics tonight. [hm. too soon?] Don't even start.

[Dazai would not have done the same for any of you he isn't nearly as yandere for Veronica or Souji-

[Too bad that his only other yandere love was the one up for Death tonight.]

[It's not said harshly, but there is an admonishing tone to how he says her name. More importantly, though...]

Souji's right. We'll... be okay.

[Physically, at least. (Except Souji, he won't be okay in any sense of the word.)]

[Look... Listen... She's just telling it how it is?]

We'll be fine, but I'm... I'm sorry we can't do more for you, Dazai. I promise we'll write to you as often as we can.
